These are exciting times for farmers, as new cereal commissions, associations and industry groups crop up (sorry) offer farmers the chance to forge the path ahead for the wheat and barley industry’s market development.
Alberta was the first province to set up a development commission following the dismantling of the Canadian Wheat Board’s monopoly powers in August of 2012. Manitoba is just now gearing up, and Saskatchewan is somewhere in between the two groups.
Shaun Haney, founder of RealAgriculture caught up with Tom Steve, co-general manager for both the Saskatchewan wheat and barley commissions, and asked Steve to outline where the group is at in terms of planning, how the two groups fit into Saskatchewan’s bigger provincial economic plans and the exciting times ahead.
